WHAT IS A HERNIA? Hernia is a bulge in the abdomen resulting from weakness of the abdominal wall layers. It may contain a loop of intestine or abdominal fat. WHAT IS A VENTRAL HERNIA? Ventral hernia usually arises in the abdominal wall where a previous surgical incision was made. In this area, the abdominal muscles have weakened. This results in a bulge or a tear.
