At the Board of Governors meeting held in October 1996 in Thailand, it was resolved that any surgeon who belongs to his/her national endoscopic society in any of our member countries will immediately be eligible to be a member of ELSA on payment of the appropriate fee. Surgeons who belong to an established international endoscopic society (e.g. SAGES) will also be treated likewise. Surgeons who do not belong to any existing society and would like to join ELSA have to be supported by 2 ELSA members.

2. Application Details
ELSA offers various membership categories as described below

| (2) Life Member | Categories (1) & (2) | US$ 150 (once‐off incl. cert) |
# (i) Applicant is responsible for the payment of the bank administration charge.
(ii) Fee does not include certificate printing for Category (1) & (2). An additional US$10 is required each certificate.
(iii) Annual membership fee is due on 31 December and lasts for one calendar year.
(iv) Only paid up members are eligible to vote and stand for election to the Committee and governing body, in addition to receiving ELSA Journal free of charge and enjoying discounts to meetings organized under the auspice of ELSA.
